PVD is short for physical vapour deposition. It’s currently the most enduring process for applying colour to tap ware, which is why products with PVD will have longer warranties (pertaining to colour). PVD will resist scratching, corrosion and general fading, especially necessary in coastal areas.

Most tap ware brands still utilise brass (a combination of copper, zinc and sometimes lead) to create the body (and then apply colour on top). While it is common across the industry, even in high-end brands, it is not the best option.
304 stainless steel, which is commonly used in kitchen cookware, does not leach harmful heavy metals. It is also a stronger metal which has higher anti-corrosion properties, due to the presence of chromium.
304 stainless steel is ideally suited for use in tapware and in coastal locations.

Warranties differ across products but in general:
tapware - 20 yrs on cartridges, 10 yrs on body, 7 yrs on finish, 5 yrs on parts and labour.
toilets - 20 yrs on vitreous china, 5 yrs on the seat (excluding loose seats), 3 yrs on valves and parts, 2 yrs on labour.
bath - 25 years.
basins - 5 years.

Above counter basins sit on top of your vanity bench, are compatible with most vanities and require wall mounted tapware or tower mixers. They come in a wide variety of shapes, colours and sizes - be mindful of large above counter basins if your vanity is ensuite depth.

Semi inset basins sit partially within the body of the vanity - not all vanities are compatible with semi inset basins.
They come in a wide variety of shapes, colours and sizes.

Undermount basins sit under the bench top and it is important to consider your vanities compatibility. There are limited sizes and shapes and they do impede on storage.

Moulded tops are basins that are made as one piece; the basin and bench top are indistinguishable.
Often the more affordable option, they’r very easy to clean, hard waring and come in a variety of materials.
